Secure and compliant: law firm increases data security by moving to the cloud

LAUX LAWYERS AG has introduced Microsoft 365 (M365) in order to improve the security of its (client) data and to be able to serve the needs of its clients in the long term.

The customer

LAUX LAWYERS AG is a law firm for IT law in Zurich and Basel that specializes in complex issues relating to digitalization. To enable clients to make the most of the opportunities that digitalization brings, the legal advice provided by our lawyers goes far beyond purely legal expertise. Their specialization: legal expertise coupled with technical and industry-specific know-how.

LAUX LAWYERS AG supports companies with a digital heartbeat in the planning, procurement and implementation of IT projects, advises on complex issues relating to data protection law and represents its clients in court in conflict situations. The common goal is always efficient solutions that work in the long term.

The project

LAUX LAWYERS AG has introduced Microsoft 365 (M365) in order to improve the security of its (client) data and meet the needs of its clients in the long term. With enhanced security applications and after intensive team workshops, the law firm can fully exploit the potential of the Microsoft Cloud. Specializing in IT law, LAUX LAWYERS are pioneers when it comes to using cloud services as a company with highly sensitive data - securely and compliantly! This project was realized in cooperation with our partner baseVISION.

The initial situation was a simple server infrastructure that no longer met the agency's requirements. The mail server was hosted externally and a VPN connection was needed for data access. In addition, the functions for collaboration were very limited and restricted. The joint solution was a fully comprehensive digital workplace and the transfer of all data to the Microsoft Cloud.

The solution focuses on the following areas

  • Introduction of a simple and secure cloud solution
  • Establishment of a collaboration platform for a virtual exchange of information, including with clients
  • Transparency towards clients
  • Transformation to a modern, mobile workplace

The following technologies were used:

  • Azure Infrastructure
  • Microsoft 365 Suite (incl. Microsoft Teams)
  • Security Solutions deployed by baseVISION

We have examined the functionality of Microsoft's cloud solution in the light of the applicable laws and standards and found that the solution design enables us to strengthen the protection of our own data and client data while at the same time taking advantage of the benefits of a cloud solution.

Modern workplace in the cloud

The Microsoft 365 solution has taken the environment at LAUX LAWYERS AG to a new level. Old-fashioned file sharing solutions have been replaced and new, highly interactive and inspiring tools now help the law firm to communicate with its clients seamlessly, flexibly and based on the latest security standards.

The fact that LAUX LAWYERS AG was also able to learn more about the Microsoft Cloud as a user as a result of the migration brings further advantages for its consulting services.

The requirements in the area of secure internal and external collaboration were recorded at the beginning and the relevant parameters and processes defined. The self-service portal, which enables the automated provisioning of new Microsoft Teams based on templates, not only simplifies work and makes collaboration efficient, but also ensures consistency in the security settings and throughout the entire collaboration lifecycle.

Partnership project

This exciting project was realized in a cooperation between LAUX LAWYERS AG, baseVision, Alphatrust and innobit, with each partner contributing its strengths: LAUX LAWYERS AG was able to make active, quick and precise decisions thanks to a comprehensive internal risk and basic analysis of the legal and regulatory requirements and thus contributed to the successful implementation of the project, baseVision realized the conception and implementation of Azure Security and Device Management & Device Security and innobit implemented the secure collaboration based on the latest possibilities.

Microsoft 365 provides valuable control over the entire lifecycle of our data, allowing us to significantly increase security while leveraging the great potential of cloud-based collaboration.
